Suggested by Janet:
How about, “What’s the worst ‘best’ book you’ve ever read — the one everyone says is so great, but you can’t figure out why?”
At first, when I read this question, I thought “Oh, I’d love to answer that one!” However, when I pasted it here, I suddenly drew a blank. The worst best book? I know I’ve read some stinkers, but worst best? I know this one… but what?
Then I remembered a book I wanted to chew my arm off to get away from. It took every every ounce of strength I had to get through it’s painfully dull pages and finally shut the back cover.
The name of that torture device is Atonement by Ian McEwan.

I enjoyed Atonement, even though I didn’t like the ending.
That’s the one I thought of, too. I did enjoy parts of the book, but the ending absolutely killed it for me.
I actually did like Atonement. Read loads of Ian McEwan after that… in fact, the McEwan I didn’t like at all was On Chelsil Beach.
